Description
- Manages the procurement of molding and assembly tooling from internal and external suppliers.
- Leads tooling and material sampling activities (with QA & Mfg.) as required, providing technical leadership related to mold / assembly optimization.
- Takes action where necessary to assure on time delivery & implementation of tooling and assembly systems.
- Estimates tooling production times and related costs to provide information for quoting (reviewed as a group) and management decisions.
- Provides input during contract review on new molding / assembly tooling projects to assure that efficient production methods and customer requirements are met.
- Provides communication of tooling progress and or issues to the Customer, BDG, and Staff via tooling progress reports.
- The Tooling Engineering participates in the Business Development Group for APQP activities and project tooling related meetings.
- Participates (with QA & Mfg.) in the conducting of capability studies on new and existing tooling to confirm stability and repeatability.
- Participates in Design of Experiments (DOE), when necessary, with Quality Engineering and Manufacturing to assure product conformance, process optimization, and tool reliability.
- As required, and working with manufacturing engineering, improves manufacturing methods to assure full application of automation techniques for material, assembly, and parts handling.
- Assists in the designs and layouts of equipment, gauging/fixtures, and workspace for maximum efficiency.
- As required, participates in the training of manufacturing personnel for new / updated projects, tooling, and processes. Confers with management, BDG, and other staff regarding tooling capabilities and limitations.
- Studies current and advanced tooling processes of like industries and incorporates those concepts into tool designs under study.
- Supports, and is an active participant in the QP Quality System to assure compliance.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
- Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
- Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
- Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Ability to use Microsoft Office applications and other Windows based programs.
- Knowledge of creating and managing spreadsheets
- Ability to write clearly and express thoughts.
- The ability to prioritize and create a system for effective and efficient work habits.
